Event Details

 

The Minnesota Department of Education, the Minnesota Center for Reading Research,  and The Minnesota Reading Associationhave partnered to offera network for district-level and school-wide literacy leaders who support teachers and administrators indeveloping PK-12 literacy programs based on research-based best practices. 

         School-wide reading coaches, district literacy coordinators, administrators, AYP coordinators, and other Minnesota educators with similar job descriptions serving learners PK-12 are invited tojoin us for this collaborative initiative.

The Leadership in Reading Network (LIRN) entails a series of three full day professional development eventsoffered throughout the 2011-2012 school year. All events are held at the Minnesota Department of Education. Each day focuses on a theme based on the recommendations of our LIRN members and structured with presentations and information presented by experts in each area along with dedicated time for networking, collaboration, and coaching.  

Each paid registration includes all three days

for the registrant as well as a guest.

December 13, 2011 ~  Multi-Tiered Systems of Intervention

Network members are encouraged to bring an Intervention Specialist or Administrator at no additional charge. Sessions this day will focus on school-wide Response to Intervention type practices, the use of data to guide supplemental instruction, and meaningful literacy practices to close the achievement gap.

February 15, 2012 ~  Reading Digital and Informational Text in the Content Areas  

Network members may bring a content area teacher at no additional charge. Sessions this day will focus on building common understanding of instructional vocabulary and discipline specific comprehension. Collegial discussions will focus on student reading proficiency, wide reading, and engagement with technology and digital texts.
